well, we know the new year will bring more covid, but don t expect to see more federal relief in your bank account. there won t be any more stimulus checks, boosted unemployment benefits and guaranteed paid sick leave programs have expired. the final round of that expanded child tax credit payment was sent out earlier this month. and the paycheck protection program ran out of cash in may after providing nearly $800 billion in forgivable loans to small businesses. now, there is some federal aid still available. a pause on student loan payments has been extended until may 1st. anyone with a federal student loan has not had to make payments since march 2020. and congress has authorized $47 billion for emergency home rental assistance over the past year. more than half of those funds remain available. president biden will speak with russian president vladimir putin this afternoon. the call requested by putin comes before a series of diplomatic talks in january over russia s military buil
haircuts, shoes. reporter: the change in the tax credit was part of last march s pandemic relief bill. families received $300 a month for every child under the age of 6 and $250 for those up to 17. phased out as families earn more. families in every single state are using this child tax credit payment for food. it is the most common use. reporter: the biden administration wants to extend the tax cut for another year but not all are on board. some republicans and even democratic senator joe manchin raising concerns about the cost of the tax credit putting the entire bill in jeopardy. i cannot vote to continue with this piece of legislation. reporter: now president biden says he plans to continue negotiations with manchin. we re going to work with anybody who s interested in taking steps to lower costs for the american people, whether it s on child care or elder care or health care. reporter: the final checks have gone out to families. more than 61 million children have ben
