Horner, who has been decorating the church for 34 years, said she spends four to five hours on each section due to them being handmade. It took her about three weeks to finish decorating the church this year, covering the building inside and out with trees, wreaths, decorative baskets, ornaments and hand rails featuring real live pine roping. The decorations also feature a statue depicting the blessed mother that will be at the Farrell church for the entire month of December. âShe brings a lot of blessings when she comes into your church,â Horner said. ....
Life Editor WHEELING It has been a trying Advent season for the faithful in the local community as churches figure out the best and safest way to hold services. Christmas Eve tends to see church pews filled with regular attendees and out-of-town visitors as the focus of the holiday is on family gatherings. However in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, congregations are being asked to do things differently this year. As directed by various denominations and church leaders, many churches have opted to hold in-person Christmas Eve services on Thursday, but with a twist. Masks and enforced social distancing, stepped up-disinfecting between services and the need to make reservations prior to Thursday seem to be the norm for many congregations. ....
By Ivy Chai The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) has released the SOP for Christmas Church services that is seen to be on the same page as the National Security Council (MKN), and the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC). Churches can celebrate Christmas Eve (Vigil) Mass between 6.00 pm – 10.00 pm on 24 December, and Christmas Day Mass from 7.00 am – 1.00 pm on 25 December. In view of the new SOP for Christmas for Catholics, Archbishop Simon Poh from the Archdiocese of Kuching, announced the cancellation of all Masses scheduled to be celebrated after 1.00 pm on Christmas Day. Christmas Eve Masses have been rescheduled to finish before 10 pm. ....
