Fairfield Public School District #112 will conduct registration for all students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade on Tuesday, July 19, in the new cafeteria at North Side School, and NOT at Center Street School. This is a change from previous years. Please enter through the North door on the new addition. (Signs will be posted). The hours of registration will be from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. All students must register prior to the beginning of school. Horizon Healthcare will be on-site to provide School and/or Sports Physicals at no cost. No appointment necessary, but a parent does need to be present with student. For Pre-K students proof of household income is required at registration This is required by the State. The 2022-2023 registration fees for grades K - 8 will be $40.00, with an additional $20 Technology fee for 4th – 8th grades. Registration fees must be paid at the time of registration. Every child entering school for the first time (Early Childhood, Pre-K and Kindergarten) and those entering sixth grade must present proof of a physical examination. Students will not be allowed to begin classes until a physical is complete. Every child entering grades Kindergarten, 2nd and 6th must present proof of a dental examination. All kindergarten students and those entering school for the first time, age kindergarten and older, must present proof of an eye exam. School opens August 12th with a 1:00 dismissal. The first day for Pre-k students will be Wednesday, August 17th. Buses will run on a temporary schedule the first week. Children who are not eligible to ride a bus may do so by paying a fee of $80.00 for the first child and $40.00 for each additional child. Transportation fees must be paid before bus service begins. More information regarding the first days of school and meal prices will be available at registration. Parents/guardians of new students and those that have moved will be required to sign a Verification of Residence Statement when registering a student. Proof of residence will be required, such as a driver's license, utility bill, telephone bill, real estate tax form, or any monthly statement. The Verification of Residence Statement will assure school officials that the child and their legal guardian legally reside within the boundaries of Fairfield Public School District #112. The statement will also inform the legal guardian that falsification or misstatement of residence will result in a tuition and penalty fee. The 2022-2023 tuition fees as established by the Illinois State Board of Education for our district will be a maximum of $9501.68. Supply lists for both schools will be available at registration. Pre-school screenings will be conducted on September 14, 15, and 16 at North Side School. Staff will be available to schedule appointments for these screenings at registration. Illinois State Police District 19 Commander, Captain Nathan Douglas have announced the results of their Alcohol Countermeasure Enforcement Patrols during the month of July. These ACE patrols allowed the ISP to focus on preventing, detecting, and taking enforcement action in response to violations associated with impaired driving and illegal transportation or consumption of alcohol or drugs. Troopers wrote three citations for Occupant Restraint Offenses, six for Registration Offenses, six Driver's License Offenses, and two Insurance Violations, for a total of eight total citations or arrests with 35 written warnings. There were no citations issued for DUI or other Alcohol or Drug Offenses. Alcohol and drug impairment are factors in more than 30% of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois. There is one alcohol-related traffic fatality every 53 minutes in the United States. The ACE program allows officers to work even harder at removing dangerous DUI offenders from the road. The project is funded through the Illinoi Department of Transportation, who remind you to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over." On Monday, July 4th at approximately 11:48 PM, officers located Gage L. Devers, 25 of Fairfield at 800 W Main Street. Devers was wanted on a Wayne County for Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine ($5,000 cash bond). Devers was arrested and transported to the Wayne County Jail. On Saturday, July 2nd at approximately 2:10 AM, an officer on patrol observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 300 block of West Delaware. The officer attempted a vehicle stop and the subject fled west on Main Street. At Market Avenue, the vehicle turned back onto West Delaware and traveled east. Near the intersection of West Delaware and Clarence Avenue, the driver lost control and left the roadway, crashing through a guard rail. The driver, Zechariah M. Jergenson, 24 of Flower Mound, Texas was taken by ambulance to Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Upon release, Jergenson was arrested for speeding, aggravated fleeing, reckless driving and driving under the influence. Jergenson was lodged in the Wayne County Jail pending a court appearance to set bond. The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that a pavement reconstruction project in Olney from West North Avenue to West South Avenue will close Illinois 130 beginning July 11. The closure is necessary to reconstruct the pavement under the railroad structure. A detour will be posted utilizing Illinois 250 and U.S. 50. Benefits from this include a smoother road surface. The project is expected to be completed by July 18. Only local traffic will be permitted on Illinois 130 between West North Avenue and the road work. Motorists are encouraged to follow the posted detour and should allow for extra travel time. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment. Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,500 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Two included approximately $5.2 billion of improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway, 270 bridges and 428 additional safety improvements. The City of Grayville will hold a Police Committee meeting on Friday, July 8 at 9 a.m. at City Hall. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of employees of the Police Department, Collective negotiation matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees, and Ordinance Violations. Tuesday saw the Flora City Council meet a day later than usual due to Monday's observance of Independence Day. In Mayor Rick Slaughter's absence, Commissioner Linda Spicer acted as mayor pro tem. Commissioner Mike Genthe ask the council to approve seeking bids for this year's Oil and Chipping Program, which they promptly approved. Genthe also sought to pass a resolution to use MFT Funds for Oil and Chipping for an amount not to exceed $97,000, which also earned approval as well as an agreement for the Clay County Cruisers to use Charley Brown Park for their 18th Annual Car and Truck Show on Saturday, July 23 (rain date of July 30). Flora Police Chief Guye Durre presented three action items for commissioners' consideration. Members approved an ordinance for an agreement with Clear Wave Communications for fiber communication connectivity and well as approving an ordinance with Leads Online, LLC to provide technology and software to aid in police investigations in performing their duties. Wayne Lee Glick – Edwardsville

Wayne Lee Glick, age 73, of Edwardsville, Illinois, formerly of Flora, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, April 3, 2022, at his home. He was born August 30, 1948, in Princeton, Indiana, the son of Robert L. Glick and Francis (Sanders) Glick. On Sunday, September 24, 1972, he married Virginia Gail Evans during a ceremony at First United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel, and together they have been blessed with sharing 49 years of enduring love and family in their marriage. Wayne was a 1966 graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. He served from 1969-1971 in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Infantry Division based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After being employed by the City of Flora for over 25 years, he retired in 2008 from his role as head of the Street Department. He was a member of Flora American Legion Post 14, the Flora Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Clay County Navy, and the IBEW Local #702. Wayne enjoyed fishing as well as grilling and frying fish, camping, mushroom hunting, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball, attending sporting events and concerts, traveling, and sitting out on the deck with friends while listening to music. He especially appreciated time spent with his grandchildren. Wayne is survived by his wife, Gail Glick of Edwardsville; 2 sons, Brian Glick of Collinsville and Mason (wife Niki) Glick of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; a granddaughter, Macy Glick; and a grandson, Grant Glick. He was preceded in passing by his parents; and a brother, Robert Carroll Glick. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Frank & Bright Funeral Home in Flora. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the conclusion of the ceremony. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A Graveside Committal Ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2022, at Rosehill Cemetery in Mt. Carmel. Wayne's family invites you to join them in placing a park bench in his memory at Joe Glik Park in Edwardsville.
