Front where i m standing now and ba basically found ourselves in the middle of a massive brawl. we found insurrectionists pushing back barricades, rushing up these very stairs here to the capitol, climbing scaffolding, climbing trump flags on the scaffolding and rushing to the windows and doors. i think what i m still struck by a year later is the sense that we got right at that moment that the insurrectionists knew they had the upper hand almost instantly. the moment they arrived in this spot, they knew they had the numbers, that the police were not there in enough numbers to really fight them off. when you are in the middle of that kind of mob mentality and that kind of violence, it s a pretty frightening thing. another thing that i remember, and i think maybe has not been talked about quite enough in the year since this happened, is the heroism and the quick response specifically of the d.c. metropolitan police. this is taking nothing away from the capitol police. they fought valian ....
