Cheshire News Clockwise: Obstacles preventing access to Middlewood Way, the £7,500 trike I used, and a mildly terrified reporter before heading out FOR a very brief moment on Wednesday morning, I was riding the fastest tadpole in Cheshire. Cllr Akers Smith (left) and Cllr Clowes (right) disagree over the restrictions A WAR of words has emerged after an Independent councillor says she is ‘recruiting candidates’ for Cheshire East’s next election in 2023. Cllr Suzie Akers Smith, the borough’s cycling and walking champion, claims she is ‘starting so early’ with her election preparations following a farcical debate over 20mph restrictions last month. Councillors eventually approved the ‘principle’ of 20mph at December’s virtual full council meeting, where Cllr Akers Smith accused the Conservative group of trying ‘to do everything they could to wreck the proposal’. However, Conservative group leader Cllr Janet Clowes disputed her understanding of the debate, saying the accusation was a ‘cheap political shot’.
