Government body to investigate Royal Berks security pay dispute


Meanwhile, the council is pushing for a “just resolution”.
Councillor Graeme Hoskin, lead member for Health at RBC, will move a motion at next week’s Full Council meeting, calling for Kingdom Security to “consider the level of danger and risk that its staff take in their duties, and to adjust their profit margins to meet the reasonable case being made by the staff”.
He also wants Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust to urgently review its contracting arrangements “to ensure future contracts are ethical”, and to consider bringing security staffing contracts in-house when possible.

Cllr Hoskin added: “Security staff perform vital frontline tasks to protect patients and staff at the Royal Berkshire Hospital and are subject to extra pressures and dangers at this time owing to the pandemic.”

Reading Festival confirmation downplayed by council

The council has played down suggestions Reading Festival will go ahead this summer.
Reading Festival has confirmed its intention to go ahead with the event this August, but a Reading councillor has cautioned that no decision has yet been made.
Festival Republic, organisers of Reading and Leeds Festival made an announcement on Wednesday, February 24, tweeting: “Reading and Leeds 2021. Following the government’s recent announcement, we can’t wait to get back to the fields this summer LET’S GO #RandL21”.
And Festival Republic director Melvin Benn told The Guardian “We’re enthusiastic, we’re excited, and we’re certain that it’s going to go ahead”.
