Dermot O'Leary gives update on The X Factor return

Saturday, 27th March 2021 at 5:00 pm
Dermot O’Leary will sit down with Foo Fighters star Dave Grohl for the next episode of Reel Stories.
In the in-depth chat, he will guide Dave through his highlights reel, taking him back to some of the most pivotal moments in his life and career, from his first TV performance with Nirvana aged 22, right through to headlining Reading and Leeds Festival in 2019.
Speaking exclusively to
RadioTimes.com, Dermot revealed the highlights of their conversation, joking: “I think for me, it was probably it was working and not losing the connection.”
Opening up on working during the pandemic, he continued: “Technically it was difficult because we weren’t sure. It’s not just a regular interview because you have to play all these clips and you want to get pretty much everything, because we never show the guests what clips. So, this works really well when someone is in the screening room with you, but when they’re in Los Angeles, 1000s of miles away, it’s really hard, but I think he got the concept and premise pretty well.”

COVID-19: Festival insurance scheme could end up 'pulling the rug' from big events, minister says
A minister has defended the decision not to bring in a government-backed insurance scheme for festivals, saying she does not want to pull "the rug from underneath them".
It comes after UK event organisers said that such a scheme would help provide them with some safety against any cancellations they could be forced to make as a result of
the pandemic.
Culture Minister Caroline Dinenage told a Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) Committee inquiry into festivals that she is not prepared to look at an insurance package while significant uncertainty remains around live events.

Oliver Dowden says Government is considering Covid 'certificates'

Card image cap

The Culture Secretary today said coronavirus 'certificates' were being considered as a way of getting people back to large events this summer - but sparked confusion when he failed to answer how many fans would be allowed in stadiums.
Oliver Dowden said ministers were reviewing a document providing proof that a person has either been vaccinated against the virus or tested negative.
The certificates could allow for hundreds of thousands of fans to return to stadiums in time for events including the Euro matches at Wembley and tennis at Wimbledon, if the government's roadmap out of lockdown stays on track.

Last month, Slam Dunk organizers finally offered an update on the festival’s plans for this year. In a statement, they reassured ticketholders they are doing everything they can to make the festival happen this year.
“Currently, we are waiting for more government guidance on when events can return and when we know that we will take the action required,” the update read. “We are absolutely determined to not let you go another year without a festival. Please bear with us and we thank you for your patience.”
Then, at the end of February,
Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled England’s four-step plan to ease out of COVID-19 restrictions. If all goes according to plan, the country could be completely out of lockdown by late June.

'I've been listening to 300 vinyl records to get me through lockdown'

BBC News
By Anna Doble
Nearly a year since the start of the first UK lockdown, I've listened to every LP I've ever bought - and found a diary of my life in the grooves.
I'm sitting, typing. The rain spreads across the window in glossy veins. We can't go out, anyway, but the weather adds to the feeling of being stuck. So here I am inside, listening to music so familiar I can hear the next track as the first starts to fade. I flip over the record and reset the needle. And I'm crying. Happy tears... memory tears… tears of gratitude. Because you may be in lockdown but I'm at the gig of my life and all it took to get here was a song.

Travel news latest: Spain considering 'green corridor' for British tourists

Spain considering 'green corridor' for British tourists
Emma Beaumont
Spain could introduce its own ‘green corridor’ for vaccinated British holidaymakers, if there is no collective EU decision on vaccine passports, the country’s Tourism Minister Fernando Valdés has said.
Mr Valdés confirmed that Spain was in “discussions” with the UK and told Bloomberg: “For us the British market is our main market. But obviously since we are a member of the European Union, the solutions have first to be part of the discussions in the EU.
“And obviously if that cannot be reached, we will be thinking of other corridors like green corridors with third countries that can help us restart tourism flows.”
