Apple announced Tuesday that it has sued Israel-based NSO Group over the use of its Pegasus spyware to attack Apple devices, the latest move in an escalating global campaign to curb surveillance abuses against smartphone users.
Apple calls NSO Group "21st century mercenaries who have created highly sophisticated cyber-surveillance machinery that invites routine and flagrant abuse."
Apple filed a lawsuit against NSO Group and its parent company for the surveillance and targeting of Apple users with the Pegasus spyware.
Israeli spyware maker NSO Group is being sued in federal court by Apple over its Pegasus tech. The spyware can take over a target’s smartphone, turning it into a spying tool. Apple wants to block NSO from using its hardware, software, or services.
Apple accused NSO Group, the Israeli surveillance company, of “flagrant” violations of its software, as well as federal and state laws.
