George Orwell was right
I remember reading George Orwell’s 1984 while in high school. The final discussion we had about the book focused on the question, “Could this happen in the United States?” The overwhelming opinion of my classmates, my teacher, and myself back in 1986 was a resounding "no." There was no way the people would ever allow the government to exert so much control over their lives. There was absolutely no way that words would be banned or that we’d allow a minority to rewrite the history of the majority.
