The 2025 Recruiting Board

Good afternoon national champs. The offseason is upon us, which means it's time to have a recruiting board. What this is: This is our sticky recruiting board for 2025. When Alex or I finish a major update (happens quarterly-ish), it will be reposted to the top of the site. Otherwise it will be under the "Useful Stuff" tab. The Guys: Icon Name Meaning Mr. Blue Player is either a verbal or is expected to be one sooner or later. Players with this designation are 65%+ to be Michigan commits. Happy Teeth Players who have Michigan in a small leading group or have Michigan as a tenuous favorite. Should be regarded as a good shot, not a slam dunk. Data Either no opinion or Michigan is one of a fairly even group of chasing schools. Players in this category maintain no leader or change their leader frequently. The default category for players that we don't know much about yet. Nefarious Eduardo Player is a longshot. Either they've declared someone else a leader publicly, popular opinion holds that they're likely to go to another school, or Michigan's taking a swing . Hopeful Hank Cousin of Sad Josh. Category of player without strong competition but legitimate Michigan interest. Sad Josh The genre of player with unrequited interest in Michigan. Unlikely to receive offers; most will eventually fade off the list and go to Duke or Michigan State or something. Tommy Torpor Player Michigan wanted, but who told Michigan he's going elsewhere, or they got someone else, so they've cut off their pursuit. Players are ordered by our best guess at their priority level and likelihood of coming. Schools listed are prioritized by threat, with those in parentheses an as-yet unreciprocated favorite. A Note on Premium Info: No illicit sharing of said material will appear on this site. Players are listed with interested schools in their profiles; this information is public. Commitments are by definition public. If you want a clearer picture than what can be gleaned from free browsing, subscribe to the services. A Note on Needs and Scholarship Numbers: We're largely ignoring the 85-man limit these days because NIL can cover the cost of attendance for any player, e.g. a transfer, not subject to the rules governing scholarships for recruits who go through the process (see "blueshirting"). Expect Michigan's class to be between 23 and 28 players as usual. [AFTER THE JUMP: Let's restart.]

Notes: Brother of Ronnie Bell. Twin of Marqueas Bell. Simone Award. Film Senior Highlights: Hudl. This is Ronnie's brother, so very Michigan fan is on board. That's good, since like Ronnie there isn't much from the scouting services to go on. Via an interview with Ronnie on Sam Webb's show, it was Ronnie himself who started showing his brother's tape to Michigan staff: “I thought I was crazy,” Ronnie said. “Last year, it was his first time starting at quarterback or whatever, and I mean, dude, he was just going bananas. He had like five, six, touchdowns some games. So I showed Coach [Steve] Casula who was on staff last year. I'm like, ‘Yo, will you watch my little brother? Am I crazy or is he really, really good?’ Maybe I'm just biased because he’s my brother. Casula (now back with Michigan as TEs coach) became the OC at UMass, and extended Kendrick his first offer in January. Michigan came along in September. Bell: “Coach was telling me, ‘No, he's really good.’ And this year, he grew even more to became even stronger, more athletic, more comfortable, throwing — whatever, blah blah blah. Oh my gosh, he must have scored like freaking 20 touchdowns in the first four games or something crazy. And so then I showed Coach Harbaugh again because it was the same feeling I was feeling. It's like, ‘Am I crazy? Or is he like really good?’ And yeah, Coach Harbaugh loved him and offered him. So that was crazy how that all played out.” We figured when he committed that a move to receiver—or possibly cornerback or safety—was in the future. Turns out Bell's quarterbacking career didn't survive fall camp. That's un-good news for the class's one nominal (non-transfer) quarterback recruit, but probably a good sign for Bell. When you figure out what position the rest of your life is, you want the rest of your life to start right away. [After THE JUMP: Ronnie Bell's scouting report may be the most accurate?] ----------------------------------------

Post-Entry Outlook: Offense

A week and change on from the national title, attention now turns to the basketball program what Team 145 is going to look like. This may be an exercise in futility since there's a distinct chance that Jim Harbaugh takes an NFL job this offseason, throwing everything into a mild state of higgeldy-piggeldy. But they'd probably just plug in Sherrone Moore, avoid significant portal departures, and be more or less the same minus a predilection for weird press conferences. So. QUARTERBACK Obviously the biggest question mark on the team in the aftermath of JJ McCarthy's draft entry. The options on campus do not feel like plugging in JJ McCarthy, to say the least. They are: Jayden Denegal, a 6'4" pocket passer who was a high three star on the composite and got a reasonable amount of garbage time last year. He'll be a redshirt sophomore next year. Davis Warren, a former walk-on who's looked solid in a couple of spring games but was hurt (probably) much of the year, ceding non-JJ snaps to Denegal. Alex Orji, a Tebow-esque runner who got on the field for various snaps down the stretch where he always ran the ball. Michigan did dial up a pass for him in the Rose Bowl but 'Bama covered it and he ran out of bounds for a two yard loss. Jadyn Davis, a true freshman who was a five star but has slid down recruiting boards to be a fringe top 100 prospect. Davis did join the team for bowl practices and has buckets of experience in high school. In the season preview I asserted that the best case scenario for Michigan entering 2024 is that Orji was the clear frontrunner and I still maintain that because we have an indication he does have an elite skill. I'm not sure the Tebow/Denard offense can be a national title winner in the year of our lord 2024; neither am I sure Michigan can pivot a ton of option stuff that would be necessary. Even so: Orji has It on the ground, and I'm not sure anyone else can say they're there as a passer. [After THE JUMP: loaded RB room… not so loaded WR room]
