New Englanders are passionate about pizza: Youâll never convince a Santarpioâs fan that the original Regina is better, or a lover of Sicilian slabs that skinny flatbread is the way to go. We all have our hometown favorites, but where do you go when youâre on the road and you Need. Pizza. Now? Hereâs a look at the slices that keep topping the âbest pizzaâ lists.

Pizza may be synonymous with New York, but the neighboring state of Connecticut also loves a good slice — enough that Rep. Patricia Dillon and Sen. Gary Winfield of New Haven are pushing for pizza to become the state's official food. But while some people think this is a fun, harmless idea, others are less impressed with the initiative and think it's a total waste of time. Nea York and New Jersey are joining in on the fun, though, staking their claim on the by-the-slice treat.
As for locals, they too agreed that Connecticut serves up a pretty mean pie. "I mean, that (the bill) sounds good to me," said New Haven resident, Aaron McCall. "Our pizza is great, we have Pepe's, we have Modern, we have some good spots. It didn't originate here, but we can make it our home." But, we know good pizza doesn't just come from New Haven! "Connecticut has the most mom and pop pizza shops than any state," said Caplan. "We have the most pizzerias per capita, so it's the whole state." As for other state food contenders, like the lobster roll, and the hamburger-- Caplan says, those still don't beat our pizza.
