Throughout the morning there. The wind blows. You can see those embers as they move in the wind. That is causing a lot of that fire to spread in many areas. Homes, businesses, a lot of things destroyed. Anything in the path of that. We have been on air since 4 00 this morning. The fire broke out about 10 00 last night. I mean, crews really dont have time to come out here and they shut off these lines or do anything else because theyre busy fighting thi ....
Where is your family home at . From the fire just around zero but maybe one mile from here. What did you see . I was sleeping my brother woke me up at 10 34 so i walked outside and we had a fire about 12 years ago but it was brighter and hotter than this. I just went and packed up my stuff. Outside, it looks like you were at a concert with a red ambience light just huge orange lighting. So you were hiking toward the fire . First of all why and what did you see . I like to take photos and videos so i thought it would be nice to get this perspective. So i hiked up about two miles and the fire was raging along the northridge so i took photos and videos but the wind was blowing down the ridge and all of a sudden the wind changed. So we heard the wind was blowing really hard. Yesterday earlier in the day we were talking about this was probably the windiest day. Reporter how bad was the fire across the ridge line . Has burned 20,000 acres one of the larger fires burning right now in the north bay. Just to the south there is a fire burning near sears point in napa county crews are battling the atlas fire and the Silverado Country Club has been evacuated. These are live pictures from santa rosa. One resident described the experience as a firestorm. He said his neighborhood was gone. Skyfox shows that homes are burning right now over this neighborhood. You can see what appears to be destruction down below in this particular part of santa rosa. Alex savidge has been reporting for us and a number people have said they left with nothing but the clothing on their back. Reporter yes and people are still evacuating or preparing to evacuate. This fire is sweeping across the city. We are now on freedom lane right off of san miguel avenue. I want to go through the cameras to give you a sense of what we are seeing across the bay area. Here is the camera. You can see the haziness over the bay bridge, causing low visibility this morning all across the waters there. This is ssl. It is gray. This is not clouds and not fog. It is smoke throughout the area. Places like san jose are looking pretty nasty this morning. South of San Francisco, you can smell it. Heres a look at the Golden Gate Bridge where you normally see the fog coming through but we are seeing smoke all across the area. Of course, it is because of the fires across to the north. The smoke and the fire is burning. You can see the line where you can see the glow. That is where the fires are burning. It is sending the thick smoke billowing. Evacuate. Rescue crews have been trying to reach anybody trapped by the flames and this is what theyve been up against. In napa county the chp has rescued at least 44 people by air. Crews have also been going door to door, trying to make sure everybody got out okay. A curfew is in effect right now for parts of santa rosa, thats in effect until sunrise this morning. It appears to the area it applies to the areas highlighted in red there on your screen. Those are under mandatory evacuation orders. This is just one example of why the Santa Rosa Hilton hotel burned to the ground, just one of several businesses destroyed. Guests of the hotel had to evacuate. Most left their belongings behind, then consumed by the flames. And a number of people are still trying to locate their loved ones. Sonoma county has received more than 100 missing persons reports, although authorities arent sure how many of those are multiple calls about the sa ....
