Tensions continue to rise between the governments of Israel and Iran after the mysterious deaths of Iranian missile scientist Ayoob Enterazi and senior military officer Colonel Ali Esmaelzadeh.
Col. Ali Esmaelzadeh was the second high-ranking officer of the same unit to die in a week. The circumstances were unclear, and Iranian news media provided conflicting reports.
Israeli officials say the officer, Sayad Khodayee, was a leader of a covert unit tasked with abductions and killings of Israelis and other foreigners around the world. Iran does not acknowledge that the unit exists.
No one claimed responsibility for the assassination of Col. Sayad Khodayee, which took place in broad daylight outside his home.
