Lawmaker Asks FG To Arrest Masterminds Of Ebonyi, Anambra Attacks

…Condemns the attack on Soludo
… Calls for arrest, prosecution of culprits
Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Toby Okechukwu, says the recent killings in Ebonyi State, the attack on former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and the prevailing killings across the country are ominous indications that things are falling apart.
Okechukwu warned that the country was already neck-deep into a season of anomie, which if not immediately arrested, would spell doom for the country.
The lawmaker, who represents Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in Enugu State, bared his mind in a statement he issued in Abuja on Thursday.

Ebonyi massacre: Things are falling apart ― Reps minority leader warns

Share
The Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon Toby Okechukwu on Thursday posited that the recent killings in Ebonyi State, the attack on former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, and the prevailing killings across the country are ominous indications that things are falling apart.
Hon. Okechukwu in a statement obtained by Nigerian Tribune warned that the country was already neck-deep into a season of anomie, which if not immediately arrested, would spell doom for the country.
While condemning the recent massacre in Ebonyi State communities and the attack at an event in Anambra, which left three policemen attached to Prof Soludo dead, he stressed that time was overdue to breathe life into the reports of the 2014 National Conference and the Governor Nasir El-Rufai-led All Progressives Congress (APC) Committee on True Federalism, both of which he said favoured state police the answer to the rising insecurity in the country.

NLC Protest needless, won't stop NASS from sponsoring Minimum Wage Bill -PGF DG -

By Omeiza Ajayi— ABUJA
In the wake of Wednesday’s protest to the National Assembly in Abuja by organised labour against decentralizing the minimum wage structure, Director General of the Progressive Governors’ Forum PGF, Salihu Moh. Lukman has hit back at labour, saying the protest was needless.
At a news conference Wednesday in Abuja, Lukman who was once a top official of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, said labour’s usual resort to protests and strikes have become outdated, urging them to perfect their negotiation skills.
According to him, the protest will not stop the National Assembly from considering bills that have to do with decentralizing the minimum wage structure.

Adesina's imperative of economic restructuring – Punch Newspapers

Published 3 March 2021
IN an era blighted by economic recessions and general malaise, the recent declaration by Akinwumi Adesina, the President of the African Development Bank Group, on the imperative of economic restructuring enlivens the debate about the fundamental weaknesses hobbling the Nigerian state. Calling for transformation, the erstwhile Minister of Agriculture traced the current seismic downturn in the country to the upside-down political structure in which the states depend primarily on the sharing from the centre for their income. “The union would be stronger when restructured,” he said. This is sound, logical and rational because Nigeria is a natural federation, but is unscientifically practising an economically centralised, unworkable and politically unsustainable federal structure.

How to pull Nigeria from the brink – El-Rufai, Fayemi, others

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and his Ekiti State counterpart, Kayode Fayemi, have said there is an urgent need to pull Nigeria from the brink of collapse.
The governors and other speakers, including Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe and Lagos-based Pastor, Sam Adeyemi, spoke yesterday during ‘Radio Now’s Urgent Conversation’ with the theme, ‘The Fierce Urgency Of Now: Tactics And Strategies To Pull Nigeria From The Brink’.
El-Rufai, who urged the Federal Government to implement the recommendations of the APC Committee on True Federalism, called for devolution of power between the FG and the states.
“I will dwell on three of the issues that I believe are critical to the immediate needs of the country to pull back from the brink: Imperative for federal, state and community police; Vesting control of oil and gas, mines and minerals (other than offshore in the Continental Shelf and Extended Economic Zone) in the states with royalties and taxes payable to the Federation Account, and rectifying the anomaly of a federation that has a more or less unitary judiciary.
