UVA Leads Virginia's New Plan to Improve Mental Health in K-12 Schools

Virginia leaders think it might be time for a more holistic approach. A new statewide project, the Virginia Partnership for School Mental Health, aims to strengthen school mental health services through two major pathways: by building a pipeline of graduate student trainees to high-need school divisions, and by creating an inter-professional network of school mental health practitioners.
Funded by a five-year, $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the partnership between the Virginia Department of Education and the University of Virginia’s School of Education and Human Development was announced last year.
Now, after eight months meeting with providers on the ground, identifying mental health needs and refining the project structure, the first efforts are underway to turn a fragmented system into a robust network of mental health services. ....

With just days to go, this year’s Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is almost over – and University of Virginia employees’ donations to the charitable giving program are more than $100,000 behind where they were last year.
For more than 20 years, the University has led statewide participation in the campaign among public employees. Through the generosity of faculty and staff, the University has raised more than $400,000 so far this year. As these vital donations go a long way toward doing good in the community and state, the need is greater than ever.

UVA Leaders Outline Plans for the Spring Semester

University of Virginia leaders have outlined plans for the spring semester, including requirements for students to return to Grounds and plans to test students on a weekly basis.
Right now, UVA is planning to welcome students back to Grounds for the spring semester, Provost Liz Magill, Chief Operating Officer J.J. Davis and Department of Medicine Chair Dr. Mitch Rosner wrote Monday afternoon in an email to the University community.
“We are monitoring the progression of the virus in the country, the Commonwealth, and this region closely,” they wrote. “As of now, we are still on track to welcome students back in-person in the spring.” ....

President Ryan Announces $30 Million in Matching Funds for Scholarships

University of Virginia President Jim Ryan announced to the Board of Visitors an additional investment of $30 million in strategic matching funds to support need- and merit-based student scholarships at UVA and UVA’s College at Wise.
The funds will be used to address two of the University’s priorities – recruiting top prospective students and increasing access and affordability for undergraduates.
This new investment provides additional institutional funds that will match private gifts supporting three scholarship programs – Bicentennial Scholarships, Blue Ridge Scholars and University Achievement Awards.
