The Broome County Health Department reports all its appointments for the site at the SUNY Broome Community College Ice Center for the week of February 1 are taken. The County, as per the directive from New York State, is only vaccinating group 1B eligible essential workers. Front-line health care workers are being vaccinated at area hospitals and eligible residents in groups 1A and 1B and those aged 65 and older can schedule appointments for the New York State vaccination site at the former Gannett publishing facility in Johnson City. Some residents in the area are reporting success in scheduling an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine at the New York State Health Department-operated site at the former Gannett publishing building in Johnson City. After days of frustration, hours on hold only to be disconnected, and crashing websites, people this weekend were scheduling appointments for over a month to two months out. Appointments are being made on-line and reportedly are being scheduled three days out but fill up quickly. Another location is in Chemung County in Elmira. First consideration is being given to those age 65 and older. Even if a person under the age of 65 attempting to schedule an appointment is in group 1a or 1b that were already designated as eligible (that includes medical professionals, nursing home staff, teachers, police, firefighters and other essential workers.) are being instructed to go through the New York State vaccination scheduling site.
