GKN Aerospace will manufacture advanced composite V-tails for GA-ASI’s new MQ-9B SkyGuardian Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS) under an agreement the company signed with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI).
SkyGuardian is the baseline system of the UK Royal Air Force’s (RAF) Protector RG Mk1 and has also been selected by Belgian Defence and the Australian Defence Force.
GKN Aerospace will produce the parts for 10 years.
GA-ASI and GKN Aerospace had previously entered into a pre-production contract, under which GA-ASI provided the required engineering technical data and tooling, and GKN Aerospace developed their manufacturing processes and produced demonstrator parts. Under this latest agreement, GKN Aerospace will begin full rate production of the V-tails from the Cowes facility to support MQ-9B aircraft production. ....

Stocks Fade by Thursday Close

The S&P/TSX Composite slid 100.71 points to end Thursday at 18,274.07.
The Canadian dollar strengthened 0.16 cents to 78.89 cents U.S.
Health-care issues weighed most on the index, with Aphria skidding $1.26, or 6.1%, to $19.35, while Aurora Cannabis lost $1.31, or 7.9%, to $15.26.
In the gold sector, Barrick Gold gave back 74 cents, or 2.8%, to $25.67, while Kinross Gold fell 16 cents, or 1.8%, to $8.52.
Energy stocks also failed to make the grade Thursday, as Imperial Oil slipped 51 cents, or 1.9%, to $26.18, while Seven Generations Energy surrendered 12 cents, or 1.3%, to $8.85.
On a more positive note, financials pulled ahead, with Equitable Group adding $2.37, or 2%, to $118.39, while Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services gained 93 cents, or 1.5%, to $64.73. ....

Disappointing jobless claims data and a resurgence in US Treasury yields fueled broad profit-taking activity on Wall Street overnight, with the Dow Jones, S & P 500 and Nasdaq Composite falling -0.38%, -0.44% and -0.72% respectively. Weekly jobless claims surged to 861k in the week ending February 13th, higher than the baseline forecast of a 765k increase. Last week s reading was revised up by 55k to 848k. These reflected softer labor market conditions in early February after vaccine rollouts brought the unemployment benefit claims down in January. ....

On Thursday, Nasa’s Perseverance rover will go through “seven minutes of terror” as it attempts to land on the Martian surface at 8.45pm UK time as part of a 2.7 billion US dollar (£1.9 billion) mission.
There have been 19 landing attempts on the red planet, but only eight have been successful – all of them American.

Stocks Hang onto Gains

The S&P/TSX Composite hung onto gains of 32.29 points to close Tuesday at 18,492.50.
The Canadian dollar slid 0.31 cents to 78.82 cents U.S.
Gold weighed things down, with IAMGOLD Corporation fading 19 cents, or 4.3%, to $4.26, while Kinross Gold dumped 39 cents, or 4.2%, to $8.96.
Among other resources, Agnico Eagle Mines slumped $3.67, or 4.3%, to $81.04, and Osisko Mining off 10 cents, or 3.1%, to $3.09.
Consumer staples also took their bruises, with Primo Water down 40 cents, or 1.8%, to $21.74, and Premium Brands Holdings slipping $1.85, or 1.7%, to $104.78.
As mentioned, cannabis led health-care issues out of the gully, with Aphria climbing $5.83, or 27.1%, to $27.38, while Aurora Cannabis gained $1.95, or 12.4%, to $17.75.
In energy stocks, Vermilion Energy took on 49 cents, or 7.2%, to $7.34, while MEG Energy gathered 29 cents, or 5.2%, to $5.89. ....
