GLAAD, an advocacy organization for the LGBTQ community, slammed “60 Minutes” and CBS News’ Lesley Stahl, saying a Sunday story on health care for transgender individuals — which focused on detransitioning — was “shameful.”
“Tonight @60Minutes @LesleyRStahl aired a shameful segment fearmongering about trans youth. Parents of trans youth could walk away with the false belief that young people are being rushed into medical transition. That is simply untrue,” the organization tweeted Sunday night. “As the piece noted, every major medical association supports affirming, age-appropriate care for trans youth and the guidelines for that care are safe and well-established. And yet, the majority of the story was devoted to ‘raising concerns’ about youth accessing that care.”

GLAAD: 60 Minutes Aired Piece With 'Anti-Trans Dog Whistles'

“Tonight, @60Minutes @Lesley Stahl aired a shameful segment fearmongering about trans youth,” GLAAD said in a tweet. “Parents of trans youth could walk away with the false belief that young people are being rushed into medical transition. That is simply untrue.”
“#60Minutes heard concerns from several trans leaders and, after spending months on the segment, they delivered a piece which still promulgates the same anti-trans dog whistles that we hear from anti-LGBTQ activists and in state legislatures like Arkansas.”
At least 20 states have introduced at least 35 bills that would limit transgender youths’ access to health care.

Lesley Stahl‘s segment initially focused on state bills aimed at limiting health care for transgender youth, and imposed criminal penalties on doctors who do provide such care.

60 Minutes Bucks Transgender Censorship on Detransitioners – PJ Media

On Sunday, CBS News’
60 Minutes aired an important news segment on the phenomenon of detransitioning — when a person who identified as transgender and undertook various interventions to confirm a cross-sex identity later rejects a transgender identity and embraces his or her biological sex. Many transgender activists have objected to news outlets covering these important stories, but
60 Minutes ran with the story, anyway.
“I can’t believe that I transitioned and detransitioned, including hormones and surgery, in the course of, like, less than one year. It’s completely crazy,” Grace Lidinsky-Smith told
Lidinsky-Smith suffered from serious depression and developed gender dysphoria in her early 20s. She began searching for answers in transgender communities on the internet.
