The Boeing C-17A Globemaster III is a heavy-lift military transport. The aircraft is powered by four Pratt & Whitney (PW) F117-100 engines that produce 40,400 pounds (lb.) of thrust each. The C-17 requires a minimum crew of three (pilot, co-pilot and loadmaster) but also has two optional observer positions in the cockpit. The C-17A’s namesake, Globemaster III, follows the Douglas C-74 Globemaster and Douglas C-124 Globemaster II.
