China's 'batwoman' warns of another coronavirus-like outbreak
Virologist Shi Zhengli, known as China's "batwoman," and her team have warned that a new pandemic similar to Covid-19 is highly likely and could originate from bats. They classified half of the 40 coronavirus species as highly risky for human spillover, with evidence of three causing disease and six previously causing diseases in humans. While other Chinese virologists dismissed the claims of a recurrence of the pandemic, they did issue occasional warnings about future coronavirus outbreaks.
