Nvidia s new Grace CPU
As usual, Nvidia had a raft of product announcements ready for its annual GTC conference which started today. Among the standouts were the Grace data centre CPU, a next-generation BlueField DPU, Omniverse Enterprise for 3D collaboration, and updates to the company s Drive platform.
Grace – named after computing pioneer Grace Hopper – is Nvidia s first data centre CPU, designed for extremely large-scale AI and HPC workloads.
Model sizes are doubling every 2.5 months, said Nvidia senior director of accelerated computing Paresh Kharya, pointing to the way the GPT-3 model uses 175 billion parameters. This suggests 100 trillion parameter models will exist by 2023. ....

COMPUTEX Taipei 2010 - AMD has being pushing the whole Eyefinity multi-monitor gaming thing for a good while now and despite some minor connectivity issues, it has been accepted with generally lots of excitement in the industry.
First up AMD launched Eyefinity with three monitor support, but now the latest video cards are able to support up to six monitors - and 12 in the case of a solution from PowerColor. We walked by the AMD booth today and then of just walking past it like most booths, I stopped and was really impressed with the dual Eyefinity6 setup that the folks over at AMD prepared for the show. AMD had its booth setup in a way so that folks could sit down and watch people race each other on the big screen in Dirt 2. Super cool. ....

In brief: Intel’s Rocket Lake desktop chips only arrived a week ago, yet one of the processors has already seen a slight price reduction. The Core i7-11700K, which was $420, is now down to $405. A more appealing offer might be the previous-gen Core i7-10700K, which has dropped to $317 a fall of almost $100 compared to six months ago.
As you’ll no doubt be aware, the Core i7-11700K and Rocket Lake in general hasn’t set the world on fire, which could explain this part receiving a price cut so soon after launch. However, if you are upgrading from an aging processor and want the latest Intel has to offer, you do get a good gaming chip that comes with PCIe 4.0 support for $405. ....

Code Named Jet Stream, this SATA 6G controller was once thought to be hitting e-tail shelves in early 2010 but has been pushed back to 2011, possibly late 2011.
Replacing the 16 channel Jet Stream in 2010 will be Barefoot 2, a product we know little about. Barefoot 2 will be an 8 channel controller with a maximum capacity of 512GB and wellthat is really all I have at this time other than 2010 is the ETA and the words very soon came to the surface a few times. ....
