Frontiers | Toward Understanding El Niño Southern-Oscillation's Spatiotemporal Pattern Diversity - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Toward Understanding El Niño Southern-Oscillation's Spatiotemporal Pattern Diversity

The El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) phenomenon, manifested by the great swings of large-scale sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies over the equatorial central to eastern Pacific oceans, is a major source of interannual global shifts of climate patterns and weather activities. ENSO's SST anomalies exhibit remarkable spatiotemporal pattern diversity (STPD), with their spatial pattern diversity dominated by Central Pacific (CP) and Eastern Pacific (EP) El Niño events and their temporal diversity marked by different timescales and intermittency in these types of events. By aff...

Frontiers | A Systematic Review of Barriers in Adoption of Environmental Management Accounting in Chinese SMEs for Sustainable Performance

Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) play an important role in sustainable development not only for their significant contribution to China’s economy but also for their large share of total discharged pollutants. Despite the widely acknowledged importance and benefits of Environmental Management Accounting (EMA), the level of adoption and implementation of EMA practice is still weak within SMEs in many countries, especially in China. The current systematic review aims to identify the barriers affecting the Chinese SMEs for adopting environmental management accounting practices along wit...

Frontiers | Alcohol-Drinking Under Limited-Access Procedures During Mature Adulthood Accelerates the Onset of Cognitive Impairment in Mice

A history of heavy drinking increases vulnerability to, and the severity of, Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) and related dementias, with Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) identified as the strongest modifiable risk factor for early-onset dementia. Heavy drinking has increased markedly in women over the past 10 years, with mature adult women reporting a 41% increase in heavy drinking days during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This raises concern over the impact of excessive alcohol consumption during mature adulthood on dementia-related outcomes in both the short- and long-term. As a first pass attem...

Frontiers | Characterizing the Severity of SARS-CoV-2 Variants at a Single Pediatric Center

Since March 2020, SARS-CoV-2 has plagued the world with COVID-19 and individuals of all ages have experienced varying symptoms of disease. Older adults were experiencing more severe disease compared to children and were prioritized by vaccination efforts. While biologic therapies and vaccinations were implemented, there were changes in public health restrictions with subsequent surges resulting in more infected children. During these surges there was a rise of different SARS-CoV-2 variants with the dominant variant initially alpha (B.1.1.7 and other Pango lineages) and epsilon (B.1.427/B.1.429...

Frontiers | Spatial Distribution and Evolution of Ancient Settlements From the Neolithic to the Bronze Age in Dalian Area, China

ArcGIS software was used to analyze the spatial distribution of Mid Holocene (i.e., 6.7-3.1 ka BP) human settlements and sites in the Dalian area. Their evolution was studied in depth alongside the Mid Holocene environmental background known to have existed. The results showed that: ① The number of ancient settlements in the Dalian area increased during this period. Most sites during the three periods studied were to be found 0 to 50 m above sea level (asl), with a significant increase in the number of sites located > 50 m asl during the Bronze Age. In terms of gradient of slope, all sett...
