Frontiers | Deriving Snow Depth From ICESat-2 Lidar Multiple Scattering Measurements: Uncertainty Analyses

The application of diffusion theory and Monte Carlo lidar radiative transfer simulations presented in Part I of this series of study suggests that snow depth can be derived from the first-, second- and third-order moments of the lidar backscattering pathlength distribution. These methods are now applied to the satellite ICESat-2 lidar measurements over the Arctic sea ice and land surfaces of Northern Hemisphere. Over the Arctic sea ice, the ICESat-2 retrieved snow depths agree well with co-located IceBridge snow radar measured values with a root-mean-square (RMS) difference of 7.8 cm or 29.2% ...

Frontiers | The Mediating Effect of Social Anxiety on the Relationship Between Social Media Use and Body Dissatisfaction Among University Students - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | The Mediating Effect of Social Anxiety on the Relationship Between Social Media Use and Body Dissatisfaction Among University Students

While several studies have looked at the relationship between social media and body dissatisfaction, there is an obvious dearth of empirical studies on the mediating role of social anxiety- a gap this study hoped to address. Using a cross-sectional research design, this study examined the mediating role of social anxiety on the relationship between social media usage and body dissatisfaction. The sample consisted of 432 students from Kampala International University and Victoria University in Uganda. The findings show a significant positive relationship between social media usage and body dis...

Frontiers | Analysis of Content, Social Networks, and Sentiment of Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labeling in the European Union on Twitter - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Analysis of Content, Social Networks, and Sentiment of Front-of-Pack Nutrition Labeling in the European Union on Twitter

In recent years, a concerted political effort has been made at national and EU level to promote the consumption of healthy foods. The European Commission (EC) expressed a need for a harmonized, mandatory front-of-pack nutrition labelling (FOPL) system at EU level. The EC intends to adopt the proposal by the end of 2022. Our research work seeks to understand the public discourse on FOPL in the EU through Twitter, by content analysis of tweets, sentiment analysis and mapping network characteristics. Search and data collection of tweets were carried out by using Twitter Application programming in...

Frontiers | Two Hidden mtDNA-Clades of Crown-of-Thorns Starfish in the Pacific Ocean - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Two Hidden mtDNA-Clades of Crown-of-Thorns Starfish in the Pacific Ocean

Recurring outbreaks of crown-of-thorns starfish (COTS) severely damage healthy corals, especially in the Western Pacific Ocean. To obtain a better understanding of population genetics of COTS and historical colonization across the Pacific Ocean, complete mitochondrial genomes were sequenced from 243 individuals collected in 11 reef regions. Our results indicate that Pacific COTS (Acanthaster cf. solaris) comprise two major clades, an East-Central Pacific (ECP) clade and a Pan-Pacific (PP) clade, separation of which was supported by high bootstrap value. The ECP clade consists of COTS from Fren...

Frontiers | "Our Patients Are Different": Predictors of Seclusion and Restraint in 31 Psychiatric Hospitals - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | "Our Patients Are Different": Predictors of Seclusion and Restraint in 31 Psychiatric Hospitals

Background Research in recent years has demonstrated that the use of coercive measures such as seclusion and restraint differs very much between hospitals within a country. In 2015, a central register for all coercive measures in the German federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg has been established for 32 hospitals treating involuntary patients. The objective of the present study was to identify factors that determine the differences between these hospitals. Methods Data on coercive measures and diagnoses from the central register in 2015–2017 were linked with structural data of the 32 hospita...
