Frontiers | Cecal Microbiota of Free-Range Hens Varied With Different Rearing Enrichments and Ranging Patterns - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Cecal Microbiota of Free-Range Hens Varied With Different Rearing Enrichments and Ranging Patterns

Free-range pullets are reared indoors but the adult hens can go outside which is a mismatch that may reduce adaptation in the laying environment. Rearing enrichments might enhance pullet development and adaptations to subsequent free-range housing with impact on behavior and health measures including gut microbiota. Adult free-range hens vary in range use which may also be associated with microbiota composition. A total of 1700 Hy-Line Brown® chicks were reared indoors across 16 weeks with three enrichment treatment groups: ‘control’ with standard litter housing, ‘novelty’ with we...

Frontiers | Aging Well for Indigenous Peoples: A Scoping Review

As life expectancy increases for Indigenous populations, so does the number of older adults with complex, chronic health conditions and age-related geriatric syndromes. Many of these conditions are associated with modifiable lifestyle factors that, if addressed, may improve the health and wellbeing of Indigenous peoples as they age. If models of healthy ageing are to be promoted within health services, a clearer understanding of what ageing well means for Indigenous peoples is needed. Indigenous peoples hold a holistic worldview of health and ageing that likely differs from Western models. The...

Frontiers | Molecular and Epidemiological Characterization of Emerging Immune-Escape Variants of SARS-CoV-2 - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Molecular and Epidemiological Characterization of Emerging Immune-Escape Variants of SARS-CoV-2

The successive emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants has presented a major challenge in the management of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. There are growing concerns regarding the emerging variants escaping vaccines or therapeutic neutralizing antibodies. In this study, we conducted an epidemiological survey to identify SARS-CoV-2 variants that are sporadically proliferating in vaccine-advanced countries. Subsequently, we created HiBiT-tagged virus-like particles displaying spike proteins derived from the variants to analyze the neutrali...

Frontiers | Compassion Satisfaction, Compassion Fatigue and Hardiness Among Nurses: A Comparison Before and During the COVID-19 Outbreak - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Compassion Satisfaction, Compassion Fatigue and Hardiness Among Nurses: A Comparison Before and During the COVID-19 Outbreak

Background: Nurses provide the majority of health-care services and face numerous health challenges during an epidemic. During the COVID-19 epidemic, nurses are subjected to physical, mental, and social disorders that impair their quality of life and hardiness. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the situation of nurses. The current study aimed to compare the compassion satisfaction, compassion fatigue and hardiness among nurses before and during the COVID-19 outbreak. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study included 508 clinical nurses from one public hospital in southern Iran...

Frontiers | The Dissolution of Olivine Added to Soil at 4°C: Implications for Enhanced Weathering in Cold Regions - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | The Dissolution of Olivine Added to Soil at 4°C: Implications for Enhanced Weathering in Cold Regions

Crushed olivine was added to a core to mimic enhanced weathering, and water was continually dripped through for ~6 months. Our experiments were conducted at 4°C, and are compared to previously run identical experiments at 19°C. Olivine dissolution rates in both experiments start out similar, likely due to fines and sharp crystal corners. However, after >100 days of reaction, the dissolution rate at 4°C was two orders of magnitude lower than at 19°C. The accumulation of heavy metals, such as Ni and Cd, was low in both experiments, but soil retention of these elements was ...
