Frontiers | A Coordinated, Risk-Based, National Forest Biosecurity Surveillance Program for Australian Forests - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | A Coordinated, Risk-Based, National Forest Biosecurity Surveillance Program for Australian Forests

Australia has a comprehensive plant biosecurity system, with the federal government responsible for pre-border (e.g., off-shore compliance) and border (e.g. import inspections) activities, while state governments undertake a variety of post-border activities (e.g., post-border surveillance, management of pest incursions, and regulation of pests) designed to reduce exotic pest arrival and establishment. Once an exotic pest has established and spread, its management, like that of endemic species, becomes the responsibility of the land manager. There has been a growing understanding among plant i...

Frontiers | Carbon Emission Trading Scheme, Carbon Emissions Reduction and Spatial Spillover Effects: Quasi-Experimental Evidence From China

The carbon emission trading scheme (ETS) is an essential policy tool for accomplishing Chinese carbon targets. Based on the Chinese provincial panel data from 2003 to 2019, an empirical study is conducted to measure the effects of carbon emission reduction and spatial spillover effect by adopting the difference-in-differences (DID) model and spatial difference-in-differences (SDID) model. The research findings show that: (1) The ETS effectively reduced the total carbon emissions as well as emissions from coal consumption; (2) such effects come mainly from the reduction of coal consumption and ...

Frontiers | What Factors Predict the Adoption of Type 2 Diabetes Patients to Wearable Activity Trackers—Application of Diffusion of Innovation Theory - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | What Factors Predict the Adoption of Type 2 Diabetes Patients to Wearable Activity Trackers—Application of Diffusion of Innovation Theory

Background: Globally, diabetes brought an enormous burden to public health resources and the situation of disease burden caused by diabetes in China is especially severe. China is currently facing the dual threat of aging and diabetes, and wearable activity trackers could promote elderly diabetic patients’ physical activity levels and help them to manage blood glucose control. Therefore, examining the influencing factors of elderly patients’ adoption intention is critical as wearing adoption determines actual wearing behaviors. Objective: This study aims to explore the predicting factors o...

Frontiers | Digital Unwrapping of the Mummy of King Amenhotep I (1525–1504 BC) Using CT - Vimarsana News

Frontiers | Digital Unwrapping of the Mummy of King Amenhotep I (1525–1504 BC) Using CT

The mummy of King Amenhotep I (18th Dynasty c.1525-1504 BC) was reburied by the 21st Dynasty priests at Deir el-Bahari Royal Cache. In 1881 the mummy was found fully wrapped and was one of few royal mummies who have not been unwrapped in modern times. We hypothesized that non-invasive digital unwrapping using Computed Tomography (CT) would provide insights on the physical appearance, health, cause of death and mummification style of the mummy of King Amenhotep I. We examined the mummy with CT and generated two- and three-dimensional images for the head mask, bandages, and the virtually unwrapp...

Frontiers | The 2019 Benguela Niño | Marine Science

High interannual sea surface temperature anomalies of more than 2ºC were recorded along the coasts of Angola and Namibia between October 2019 and January 2020. This extreme coastal warm event that has been classified as a Benguela Niño, reached its peak amplitude in November 2019 in the Angola Benguela front region. In contrast to classical Benguela Niños, the 2019 Benguela Niño was generated by a combination of local and remote forcing. In September 2019, a local warming was triggered by positive anomalies of near coastal wind-stress curl leading to downwelling anomalies t...
