Share: For video game fans who have been playing in arcades and at home for several decades now, the topic of preservation has become a pressing one in recent years. As ageing technology inevitably fails and we sadly begin losing the creators who were there at the dawn of digital interactive entertainment, important works can all-too-easily be lost forever. Source code goes unarchived, assets disappear on degrading storage mediums, and pieces of our cultural heritage — once assumed to be safe forever because digital doesn't degrade, right? — become not only unplayable, but unrecoverable. As preservationists work to save video game history before it's too late, one such piece of software has fortunately escaped oblivion thanks to the combined efforts of passionate developers and publishers, and former Westone staff who worked on the original game. The ill-fated
The Community Spotlight 2021.02.27 After two years of deliberation, we've decided to continue development on The Community Spotlight. Hello and welcome to another edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight and I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the wonderful community creations from the last week. Holy crap! For whatever reason, and I'm not judging, the community wrote up a storm this week! Outside of the Christmas and GOTY themed editions of the Community Spotlight, this might be the most I have ever written for a Spotlight in a long while. But, I love it! Having more community content to share is not a bad problem to have. However, I do want to ask all of you to try seeking out one blog on the Spotlight and taking the time to thank the writer. Some of these blogs are still looking for their first comment of support and that one comment can mean the world to a lot of people. With that in mind, let's jump into the site-related housekeeping!

The quirky but well-liked game PixelJunk Eden finally has a sequel. I’ll grant that it’s a lot less quirky than the original came off around a dozen years ago, but there’s still quite a bit of charm to its presentation and gameplay. That said, if you’ve kept up on mobile gaming you’re going to find a lot of the content here somewhat familiar. It makes use of a lot of stuff from Eden Obscura, which came out on the App Store a couple of years back. That doesn’t make it any less beautiful, mind you. The gameplay is largely similar to the original game, with lots of swinging and plant-growing to some nice tunes and all painted up in pretty colors. It’s a lot more forgiving than that original game, thankfully, so you can really soak in the atmosphere without stressing about a timer.
