Call for Nominations – 12 th Annual YWCA Women of Distinction Awards

Call for Nominations – 12 th Annual YWCA Women of Distinction Awards
Written by Jen Russey
The YWCA Darien/Norwalk is seeking nominations for women who epitomize leadership in the areas of racial equity, social justice, and have worked to strengthen our community during this pandemic for their 12th Annual Women of Distinction Awards.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we were unable to hold last year's Women of Distinction Award Ceremony to formally honor the six phenomenal women selected. During the 2021 event, the YWCA will honor those six women, in addition to at least one additional woman and one young woman of distinction. The event will be held in early June and will be an intimate in-person event coupled with a live stream.

DARIEN — Eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity will be the mission of the YWCA Darien/Norwalk’s 14-day equity and social justice challenge.
Beginning Feb. 22, the online initiative is a chance for participants to build more effective social justice habits.
The challenge will tackle issues of race, power, privilege and leadership. Registered participants will receive a daily email challenge — such as reading an article, listening to a podcast or watching a video — and are then encouraged to reflect on that content and to relate the situation to their own lives.

DARIEN — It’s not just political correctness that makes the representation of diverse people important.
According to Dr. Simran Jeet Singh, the impact it has on educating the next generation is pivotal and far-reaching, but it requires a little more than just spouting what has become a popular buzzword—“representation.”
