Satellite data firm BlackSky enters public orbit with $1.5 billion blank-check deal

(Reuters) - Satellite imagery and data company BlackSky Holdings said it had agreed to go public through a merger with blank-check firm Osprey Technology Acquisition Corp in a deal valuing the combined entity at $1.5 billion.
BlackSky, founded in 2014, uses a constellation of high-resolution small satellites with artificial intelligence and machine learning for real-time Earth observation.
It said it will be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, under the new ticker symbol “BKSY” after the merger, which is expected to provide $450 million in net proceeds.
This includes $180 million from investors including Tiger Global Management, Peter Thiel’s Mithril Capital, Hedosophia and Senator Investment Group. ....

UK firm IXcellerate to invest $500 million in two new Moscow data centres - Kommersant

MOSCOW (Reuters) - IXcellerate plans to invest $500 million to construct two new data centres in Moscow, aiming to cover a shortage of server capacity in Russia, the Kommersant daily reported on Tuesday.
The London-headquartered data centre operator will launch a network of such centres at two sites, including at a former brewery in southern Moscow, with a total capacity of more than 20,000 racks, Kommersant reported, adding that Russia’s entire capacity stood at 50,000 racks in 2020.
Server racks house the essential hardware in a data centre, from computer servers to patch panels.
One of the new data centres would be the largest in Europe, Kommersant quoted IXcellerate Managing Director Konstantin Borman as saying. ....

MILAN (Reuters) - Former Google executive Carlo d’Asaro Biondo has been appointed as Chief executive officer of Telecom Italia’s (TIM) newly-created cloud unit Noovle, Italy’s biggest phone group said on Monday.
The creation of the new company is part of the former phone monopoly’s strategy to boost and diversify its revenues, providing services to businesses and state-controlled offices looking to improve their digital reach.
D’Asaro Biondo, who has been Google’s president for EMEA partnerships, joined the former phone monopoly last year after TIM struck a deal with the tech giant to expand its cloud business in the country. ....
