Grand jury no-bills county inmate death case

A Young County grand jury this month no-billed the case of an inmate death that occurred in March 2023 at the Young County Jail. The determination was made following the completion of an investigation from the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers. Brandon Taylor, 31, of Mineral Wells, was found unresponsive in an administrative segregation cell March 21, 2023.

Voter registration deadline approaching for primaries

Young County residents have less than two weeks left to register to vote in the March primaries. National, state and local seats are up for election during the primaries. The primary election will be March 5, 2024, with early voting Feb. 20, 2024 through March 1, 2024. The last day to register to vote will be Feb. 5, 2024 and the last day to apply for a ballot by mail will be Feb. 23, 2024. Per state law, those who vote with one political party in the primary election must vote in the same political party for the runoff election.

Dixon pleads guilty to charges of indecency with a child

Allen Lee Dixon pleaded guilty Monday to two felony charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact. As part of a plea agreement, he was arrested and sentenced to 180 days in the Young County Jail and 10 years deferred adjudication community supervision. The charges stem from allegations made against Dixon while he was operating Brothers Smokehouse, a former restaurant in Graham which he co-owned. The offenses took place around May 1, 2020 and Nov. 1, 2021, with victims under the age of 18.
