ACC Commissioner responds to the concerns of political parties – Cocorioko


The Commissioner of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Francis Ben Kaifala Esq., has on 4th May 2021, responded to concerns raised by political parties related to the fight against corruption in Sierra Leone.
The event, which took place at the Cathedral Hall, 3 Gloucester Street, Freetown, was organised by the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI) in collaboration with the ACC.
The engagement is a follow-up meeting with the ACC on emerging issues relating to corruption and public accountability from the initial rounds of the Inter-party meetings and was attended by the leadership of the registered political parties in Sierra Leone. ....

Opposition politicians Commend SLRSA Executive Director : Sierra Leone Concord Times

The Publicity Secretary of the main opposition All Peoples Congress (APC), Sidi Yahya Tunis and the National Grand Coalition (NGC) party Chairman, Dr. Denis Bright have showered commendable praise on the Executive Director of Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Ibrahim Sannoh and the Director General of the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA), Mohamed Massaquoi for their innovative leadership to digitalise their institutions.
Their commendations came in the wake of the CRVS and Identify Management Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Tuesday, 13th April 2021 at the Ministry of Finance conference room on George Street in Freetown.
The former Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister admitted that he is now using the SLRSA digitalised Life Card, noting that, “SLRSA Executive Director is doing extremely well.” NGC’s Denis Bright used the occasion to also commend the youngest SLRSA Executive Director and the NCRA Director General. Dr. Dennis Bright, NGC Chairman, exposes Anti-Corruption Commission : They only go after small fishes – Cocorioko


As the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) updated the public that the High Court of Sierra Leone presided over by Hon. Justice A.T. Ganda on 25 February convicted Bockarie Sheku Mattia, a supervisor on contract with Statistics Sierra Leone’s Bo office on one count of soliciting an advantage of one hundred thousand leones, which is less than ten US dollars, Dr. Denis Bright has told Beyond Borders that corruption does not only belong to yesterday.
The convicted Mattia was ordered to pay a fine of Fifty Million Leones (Le: 50,000,000), within a period of one month, effective the date of the judgment or serve a five-year imprisonment term. According to the particulars of offence, between 1st and 3rd June, 2020, in Bo, Mattia, while on a verification exercise for the World Bank-supported Social Safety Net program, meant to alleviate poverty from the poorest of Sierra Leoneans, solicited the sum of One Hundred Thousand Leones from a potential beneficiary of the scheme. ....

Early returns from the special senate vote in Georgia on 5 January 2021 do suggest that Vice President Kamala Harris may have the casting vote in a deadlocked US Senate.
