The region remains under an arctic airmass that brought snow and bitterly cold temperatures on Thursday. A gradual warming trend is expected, along with another chance of snow by Sunday night. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Paducah, KY say a chance for light snow is in the forecast for late Sunday night and through the morning hours Monday, with an inch or two of accumulation possible. Warmer weather is expected by later next week, with high temperatures into the mid 50s and a chance of rain by Thursday. Winners have been named in the recent Christmas Light Tour for area senior citizens in Fairfield. 1st place went to the home of Chris and Susan Victor at 14 Park Place, 2nd place to the home of Diane Zurliene at 311 SW 3rd and 3rd place to the home of Jerry and Norma Vaughn at 604 East Center. The seniors on the tour chose the winners. Following the tour, music and refreshments was provided at the Ellen Moore Church. Rides Mass Transit provided transportation for the seniors. The abandoned hospital in Carmi was broken into recently. According to our sister station WRUL in Carmi, a representative from the TSA Holding Group in San Francisco, CA which is in possession of the property reported that a person or persons broke into the structure and made off with an undisclosed amount of copper wire, and some air conditoner units were reportedly stolen from the proprety. The theft was believed to have occurred sometime over the past month. The Volunteers for the Christmas Dinner will hold their 33rd annual Christmas Dinner on Sunday at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. The meal will be carry out and drive through only. Serving will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Christmas Day. Those wishing a meal to be delivered should call 599-8875 or 919-3534 after 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve and before noon on Christmas Day. At Clay City the stage is 5.38 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. At Carmi the stage is 4.68 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.12 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 4.13 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet.
