Swindon Town lose 2-0 to Portsmouth at Fratton Park

SWINDON Town lost 2-0 to Portsmouth on a bitterly cold night at Fratton Park on Tuesday.
After an early goal from Ronan Curtis, Pompey netted their second through an Ellis Harrison penalty shortly after the hour mark as Town lost for the 18th time in 28 League One matches.
Pompey were in control throughout on the south coast – highlighted by the fact the hosts had seven shots on target to the visitors 0.
John Sheridan’s men now head into a west-country derby with Bristol Rovers off the back of two straight defeats.
Town made two changes to the side that lost by a goal against Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

Swindon Town lose 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury Town in League One

SWINDON Town failed to make it consecutive victories once again after a rudderless display saw John Sheridan’s men lose 1-0 at home to Shrewsbury Town.
In the first half of a particularly scrappy affair at the County Ground, a sensational volley from Harrison Chapman settled the game in the visitors’ favour and saw Swindon drop back into the League One relegation zone on goal difference.
A rare win for Shrewsbury in Wiltshire was just the club’s second in 20 attempts – a run stretching back to 1961 – and first since 1995.
Swindon made two changes to the side that beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Swindon Town beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 after Brett Pitman goal

BRETT Pitman’s early goal was the difference as Swindon Town beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 despite going down to 10 men midway through the second half.
Following Pitman’s 17th-minute close-range header, Town looked pretty comfortable against their relegation rivals, even after Dion Conroy’s second-half red card for bringing down Will Keane as last man.
The three points briefly took Town out of the relegation zone while also re-setting an unwanted record on Tuesday nights. Victory over Wigan was the first time Town had won a league game on a Tuesday night since beating Scunthorpe United 2-0 in March 2020.
John Sheridan made three changes to the side that lost 1-0 away at Hull City on Saturday.

Swindon Town player ratings after defeat to Hull City

Mark Travers: 7
Travers made a few good saves to deny Hull a runaway victory on Saturday. He cannot keep being let down by those in front of him if Town are to stay up.
Kieron Freeman: 5
Freeman sent in a few dangerous crosses in the second half. But his lack of pace threatened to cause Town a few problems though as Malik Wilks latched onto the 28-year-old. Sheridan can only hope he sharpens up with more game time.
Conor Masterson: 6
The QPR loanee looked a little nervous when asked to make a decision on the ball, but his positioning was quite good. Masterson could benefit from adding some aggression to his game.

Hull City beat Swindon Town 1-0 after Greg Docherty goal

SWINDON Town lost 1-0 to League One leaders Hull City on Saturday after an early Greg Docherty goal settled matters at the KCOM Stadium.
Docherty struck in the fifth minute to give Grant McCann’s side a lead which they never really looked like relinquishing to a Town side that has failed to win in any of their previous four games now.
Hull enjoyed the majority of the chances on home soil, and perhaps should have made life more comfortable for themselves.
However, the Tigers held on to hoist themselves to the summit of the table and leave Town two points off safety in 22nd.

Swindon Town player ratings after defeat to Plymouth Argyle

Mark Travers – 5
Another game where Travers has very little to do except pick the ball out of his net. The stopper couldn’t have done much about the first goal, but he perhaps could have done better with the one-on-one chance.
Rob Hunt – 4
Hunt started his night by making a poor tackle on Conor Grant which should have resulted in a penalty. All night, cross after cross came in from the Plymouth left, and from one, the visitors scored their first.
Dion Conroy – 6
The captain made a handful of important interceptions, plus one crucial block off Camara, to prevent the scoreline getting any worse for Town. He isn’t being allowed to show off his range of passing though, which may have helped the hosts get up the pitch quicker.

Swindon Town drew 2-2 away to Charlton Athletic in League One

SWINDON Town threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Charlton Athletic at the Valley on Saturday.
First-half goals from Hallam Hope and Matt Palmer put Sheridan’s men ahead at the break, but Charlton pulled one back through Chuks Aneke before Andrew Shinnie squared the game up at the death.
Both sides hit the woodwork at various points, but ultimately the game ended all square with neither manager happy with taking a point from the game.
Sheridan made four changes from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, with two Town defenders given debuts.
Right-back Kieron Freeman and centre-back, Conor Masterson lined up in defence while Joel Grant came straight back into the starting XI after a considerable period out injured. Hallam Hope was preferred to Brett Pitman up front.
