Solicitor ordered to pay $131k for misappropriating trust fund

A Canberra-based director has been ordered to pay $131,205 for misappropriating his practice’s trust account. It is the fourth time he has been involved in similar disciplinary hearings and is the second penalty related to trust account defalcation.
Charles Giles, who acted for clients “whose business was in severe financial difficulty”, has been ordered to pay $131,205.38 for misappropriating trust funds while at the time holding an unrestricted practising certificate. In March 2019, his conduct was branded as professional misconduct and, in April 2020, his name was removed from the roll. ....

Don't give postings to civil servants facing disciplinary proceedings: SHC

The Sindh High Court has directed the chief secretary to ensure that the civil servants facing corruption or disciplinary proceedings should not get a posting or an administrative assignment till the references against them are concluded in accordance with the law.
The direction came on a petition filed by Haji Ayaz Memon against government officers getting postings despite facing NAB references or other departmental proceedings. The court had directed the chief secretary to submit complete details of cases against civil servants who despite facing disciplinary proceedings or criminal cases are holding the office. Subsequently, the chief secretary filed a report in this regard. ....
