So far, more than a third of the people in Olmsted county have received their first vaccine shot. Statewide - Minnesota is leading the nation when it comes to doses administered. We ve really been working at making sure that there are resources available on the education side and I think what we re seeing now ultimately is that there is increasing willingness in a variety of populations and cultures in taking vaccine if we re able to talk to those communities, says Graham Briggs, M.P.H., director of Olmsted County Public Health. ....

Share This The FINANCIAL A recent data review by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices shows that over 30,000 women who are pregnant have been safely vaccinated for COVID-19. The preliminary safety study, which took place between December 2020 and January 2021, compared women who were pregnant and not pregnant, and who received the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines according to Mayo Clinic. The advisory committee found that one day after vaccination, local reactions in both study groups were similar. In nearly all cases, no significant differences in reactions were experienced, such as localized pain, redness, fatigue, headache or fever. Women who are pregnant and participate in V-Safe ― a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention safety monitoring program following COVID-19 vaccination ― are being followed at these intervals to monitor for longer-term adverse effects: ....

According to the poll, conducted by the Bay Area Council, a public-policy advocacy organization, of the 57% who said they haven’t yet been vaccinated, 21% said they definitely or probably won’t get vaccinated. This is likely to pose a challenge for public health officials working to end the pandemic by achieving herd immunity, though according the the World Health Organization it is not yet known what percentage of the population needs to be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19. ....
