They had a long title, the Senate Select committee to study governmental operations with respect to intelligence activities and it quickly took on the name of its chairman, frank church. It is thus known as the Church Committee. They met for 16 months, reviewing more than 10,000 documents and calling 800 witnesses in front of the committee.
