A new ordinance regulating short term vacation rentals in Shawnee takes effect on March 26th and residents hope there's a drop in noise and crowd size complaints.
The incident is “one of the biggest black eyes in the history of Shawnee,” said a former official.
“We’ve had members who did not have trash or recycling picked up for three consecutive weeks. That is unacceptable,” an Overland Park HOA leader said.
The fight is not over. The property management company suing over the “co-living” ban plans to appeal.
The ordinance passed by Shawnee City Council last year effectively limits the number of unrelated individuals who can live together in a single living space. Hundreds of residents signed a petition demanding a repeal to the rules, which critics have called "racist" and "classist."
