Were very emotional over the last year. assess the situation for me today. how are things? every day we hoped that bp would step up to the plate, but today they re still dodging the bullet. it s a lot better and we ve got good fish and seafood. there s isolated areas, as you saw, that still has oil. every day it washes into the marsh. you don t see the pelicans covered like you did, but any oil on their breasts, they still get pneumonia and die. we still have a problem, and we re still having a problem today a year later. i can t tell you who is in charge still. doug subtles is gone. who is in charge? doug brinkley, you were critical a lot. what s your assessment about the transparency today and who is really running the show here now? bp remains a bad player. they did whatever they needed to ....
Here, thick oil still remains and the cleanup will go on for months, if not years. these beaches look phenomenal compared to a year ago, but the impact still continues. there s been a huge number of dead dolphins and turtles washed up on these beaches. what is going to happen to wildlife in the next decade? we still don t know. we re back with billy and doug. billy, you just heard him say, you know, we really don t know what the long-term environmental impact is going to be. is it being monitored? do you feel like it s being watched and people are keeping close track? absolutely not. the spots you saw, you don t have the thick oil. but when a bird gets a little bit of oil on its breast, it s like you punching a hole in the boot. they re going to crawl back in ....
