The National Weather Service out of Paducah, Kentucky has issued a severe heat advisory for the following counties in Southern Illinois: Wayne, Edwards, Wabash, Franklin, Hamilton, Jefferson, White, Williamson, Saline, Gallatin, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, and Massac; as well as parts of Southwest Indiana, Western Kentucky, and Southern Missouri. This heat advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Saturday through 8 p.m. Sunday. Heat index values could exceed 107 degrees. Our area is already under an extended advisory lasting through Wednesday, with triple digit indices through mid-next week. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
