Second drug driving offence in 5 years for Rocky woman

A woman has lost her licence for seven months after her second drug driving conviction in five years.
Tamara Louise Meharg pleaded guilty on March 4 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of drug driving.
Police prosecutor Sargeant Kevin Ongheen said police intercepted Meharg at 8am on January 7 on Kent St, Rockhampton, and she had marijuana in her system.
Magistrate Jason Schubert said Meharg had a drug driving conviction in her record from 2017.
He fined her $700 and disqualified her from driving for seven months.

A young drug user’s reality about the negatives of using illicit drugs came crashing down on him - literally.
Riley Lindsay Jaques had marijuana in his system when he crashed a car while trying to avoid two large boulders in the middle of Byfield Rd.
Jacques also had a clip-seal bag of green, leafy material.
He spent his birthday in Rockhampton Magistrates Court this week, pleading guilty to one count of drug driving and one of possessing a dangerous drug.
Police prosecutor Kelvin Boyd said the crash was on Byfield Rd, Byfield, at 2.30pm on September 26, with witnesses saying Jacques crashed the car taking evasive action to avoid two boulders in the middle of the road.

More than 100 arrests were made across north Wales as part of the Christmas Anti Drink and Drug Drive Campaign.
The month-long campaign, which ran from December 1st 2020 and January 1st 2021, ran in conjunction with a UK-wide operation led by the National Police Chief’s Council.
In north Wales a total of 129 motorists were arrested, with 47 people failing breath tests and 82 people providing positive drugs tests.
During the 2019 campaign North Wales Police made 100 drink drive and 101 drug drive arrests.

Chief Insp Jon Aspinall of the Force’s Operational Support Services said: “Despite fewer people being caught drink or drug driving over the 2020 Christmas period, we must acknowledge that the coronavirus pandemic is likely to be a significant factor.
