Soiltech Soiltech Wireless launches its latest software innovation, Growing Degree Day (GDD) tracking, to its sensor and cloud platform. Building on the real-time soil and temperature tracking capabilities, the new function allows farmers to automate GDD calculations wirelessly. Growing Degree Day tracking facilitates crop health monitoring and enables optimal timing of chemical applications. “Soiltech’s intelligent GDD tracker eliminates the need for trips to the field to pull data from loggers and removes the time-consuming manual inputting and averaging of temperatures,” Soiltech CEO Ehsan Soltan says. “Simply set your start date, base temperature, and maximum temperature thresholds and the cloud platform does the rest.” ....

Ehsan Soltan had a career in telecommunications before his family connections drew him to Idaho where he began searching for solutions to the problems local farmers faced. Four years ago, Ehsan created the company Soiltech Wireless who have developed a sensing device that transmits data on soil moisture, humidity, location, and the impacts that can cause bruising, throughout the lifecycle of the crop. ....
SoilTech Wireless and AT&T Partner to Measure Savings By 1/6/2021 SoilTech Wireless and AT&T partnered together during the 2020 growing season to measure the environmental and operational benefits of using SoilTech’s sensor across farms. The results showed farmers could see a 4% increase in yield and across 10,000 acres of farmland, could save 500,000 million gallons of water and 250,000 gallons of gasoline. SoilTech sensor technology precisely records and transmits data for soil moisture, temperature, humidity, location, and impacts that may create bruising across the lifecycle of a crop. AT&T’s LTE-M cellular network enables the device. Monitoring these crop quality variables helps farmers increase yield. By 12/10/2020 With a career in telecommunications and manufacturing and with family ties to Idaho, Ehsan Soltan found a way to apply his background and problem-solving skills to agriculture. And it all began by paying close attention to farmers’ pain points. “I attended grower meetings just to listen and learned that growers and farm managers would drive hundreds of miles a day to pick up soil and then determine moisture levels to plan irrigation,” Soltan recalls. He realized he could develop a wireless, standalone moisture sensor that would allow farmers to direct their time and attention to other responsibilities. He tested multiple variations with local potato farmers who provided invaluable feedback and helped validate the design. ....
