Primary voters trust him as the best candidate to take on joe biden, which is the electability question and the most important question going forward. so the short answer to that is, over the last six months, we ve not seen anyone who has come close to donald trump. he s running away with this and his second place challenger ron desantis has massive warning signs, seeing nikki haley creep up in south carolina, seeing tim scott creep up on him in ohio and seeing a lot of news reports here where he s bleeding money, he s firing campaign staff and having to do a campaign reset a month and a half in, not a good place to be against trump. jonathan: lauren, as a democrat, are you happy to see donald trump apparently walking away with this nomination? is he your preferred opposition to joe biden? i don t think happy is the right word here. particularly because a lot of americans don t necessarily have a lot of faith in former president trump s leadership abilities. i think obviously we ll ....

Focused on that is your best bet to make the argument. what do you think? maybe. i actually it depends on what you mean by owning and leading the libs. it s true, if you can demonstrate the year alpha, and you will make chris hayes cry as much as trump does, that is important. right? in theory. it is the electability question. i m not sure that is the strongest one. here s why. republican voters heard that in 2016, they had a lot of experts in the republican establishments, saying that trump couldn t win. they got on trump, everybody said the trump couldn t win up until the moment that he won. they were the ones that were proven right. these voters are the ones that were proven right. it is hard to convince them now to listen to that for the next time. i think it s kind of a week the electability side of it is a weak argument. unless it is paired with this other more alpha dominant, you are argument. desantis is ill suited to make ....

MSNBC Chris Jansing Reports June 4, 2024 18:50:00

Trump endorsed all lost. if you had taken the votes that went to other republicans and put them together, those republicans would have won. so i think the president s kind of high profile endorsement of those candidates actually hurt those candidates, at least in the general election. so if past is prologue, that means president trump is going to have a hard time in those swing states, which means he can not win a general election. how much do you think the electability question is catching hold with republicans and in particular, primary republican voters? i think it s going to become very real. it also may be something else that gets republicans that maybe don t normally participate in primaries because we know it tends to be, you know, the small more extreme of both parties are the primary voters, but maybe it gets more republican primary voters out there, which would allow for, you know, basically increasing the numbers so it does open the field, but i would take one statement, ....

FOXNEWS The Story With Martha MacCallum June 4, 2024 19:28:00

Approval rating has been going including our own, which is down 36% approval. and then you have this real concern about the president s mental acutie, his ability to do the job. his energy, his ability to be president of the united states. real concerns inside these polls. the biggest one is the electability question. if running against former president donald trump, the whole premise for the biden team had been both in the mid-terms and now it seems like this elect run is to run against president trump, former president trump and say he s extreme, say the country can t go down that road. in this poll, the former president is up seven points. leading with independents. a president who is still facing a number of legal challenges as we know who is still getting votes or at least voters that ....
