Born on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde, Almeida developed her vocal techniques singing in church. Almeida’s voice paired with the Cape Verdean rhythms of batuque, coladera, and tabanka have garnered acclaim throughout Africa, Europe, and North America. “Elida Almeida’s powerful and smooth vocals blend with her sensual and grounded delivery to give her audience the feeling that she’s in the room with them,” says Lotus Executive Director Tamara Loewenthal. “She knows how to party and she wants viewers to get up and move with her, to jump up and sing with her. We heartily accept the invitation and look forward to doing that together on February 18.” ....
