We were doing a story about an opposition type newspaper and its editor and what it was like to run a newspaper that felt free to criticize the regime when so many other papers were being cracked down on and what it was like to be in that position. Then the coup started and suddenly our story took on sort of a different dimension. Turns out the editor we were writing about is one of the people on their list of people they dont like postcoup, because postcoup they are cracking down on opponents. There basically isnt a free press. Its a very complicated situation and we talk about how for the press its really complicated there. Right now the guy we focus the story on is no longer in turkey. David you approach the story in a different way. Theres been this coup, you looking at the role of the opposition. How has that changed, being the opposition in turkey . They are cracking down on society, erent aspect putting judges on lists for targeting, putting journalists on lists, teachers on list
Bring her practice to the majorleague. She had a very tortured past, very traumatic childhood. She herself was probably twisted at birth anyway and the combination has made her somewhat unusual. The laws a suggestion that she is free to ignore she frequently does. Is there certain breed for Defense Attorneys . Guest thats a good question. Im not sure. Defense lawyers a prosecutor has to think about a fair trial for everyone as an ethical obligation to make sure it is not just about getting a conviction but getting it in a fair way so everybodys right is protected. The defense have no such obligation. A defense attorney only has to take care of his or her client. And so that samantha, thats what she does. She only worries about her clients and about winning and thats only thing she worries about. Host does the client have to be innocent to defend . Guest for a defense attorney worried about only defending the innocence, that attorney would have no practice. You cannot be that picky. You
Government abuse is onesided and i think theyre a couple of reasons for that. Look when i started this, i care about free speech and the first amendment. Im a libertarian when it comes to this and i dont think, i have no allegiance to one party or the other or that went into this and i had written a lot about the left for my column in the wall street journal that i assumed going and i would find a whole bunch of stuff on the right. I didnt. We are filming on the fourth floor of city hall and its right on the sinclair river, probably the most Eastern Point of michigan. The city of port huron the population is around 30,000 people which has decreased. At one time back many years ago, probably back in the 60s it would have been more, closer to the 40s by this economic changes and industry changes and that type of thing, it has decreased over the years and demographically, you know we probably have an assortment of all different types of people but i would call it a little bit on the distr
Incredible democracy that gives the average person power and average person does not vote. I think its a shame of all of the develop democracy in the world the United States is last in voter participation. That really bothers me because if we dont keep our eyes on the prize, and if we dont understand how we have to constantly be monitoring whats going on and taking steps to rectify any problems on these problems will multiply and we end up like we are now, very divided and at each others throats. That should not be the case but unless the people want to participate in this democracy, thats whats going to happen. Host you are calling for new arguments or new ways to look at old arguments. How so tranthree im calling for new arguments, the Founding Fathers understood they had their own biases and their own idiosyncrasies and maybe they didnt get it all right.
