Hule and Arkadianou to Play In NCAA Doubles And Singles Championships

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State senior Petra Hule has been selected as the No. 3 seed in the singles championship, while Hule and sophomore Anna Arkadianou have been chosen to play in the doubles championship of the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championship. Hule's No. 3 seed is the highest in schhol history in the NCAA Singles Championship. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 23-28 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois, after the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 20-22. The Seminoles were selected on Monday to play in the team championship and will face Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Gainesville Regional at the Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex at the University of Florida. Buyckx & DeSpain Selected for Doubles National Championships

CLEMSON, S.C.  Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain have qualified as one of the 32 doubles pairs to compete for the National Doubles Championship in Champaign, Illinois from May 23-28. The duo is the first from Clemson to be selected for nationals since Marie-Alexandre Leduc and Fernanda Navarro in 2019. Buyckx and DeSpain were brilliant for the Tigers all season, boasting a 13-7 record, including a 10-4 mark in dual matches and a 6-3 record in ACC play. In the five times they battled other nationally ranked pairs, they went 3-2. Most notably, they defeated the No. 11 ranked pair in Emma Navarro and Hibah Shaikh 6-1 late in the season. They also had a 5-4 lead over the No. 1 Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty before the match was abandoned. “Ali and Sam have been a huge strength for us in doubles all season, remarked Head Coach Christy Lynch. No. 1 North Carolina Defeat No. 57 Clemson

CARBORRO, N.C. – The No. 57 Clemson women’s tennis team (10-10, 2-8 ACC) fell to No. 1 North Carolina (22-0, 11-0 ACC) on Friday by a score of 7-0. Despite the loss, several Tigers put up strong performances against highly ranked opponents.  In doubles, The No. 61 pair of Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain managed to put the top-ranked pair of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty on its heels, taking a 5-3 advantage. However, the match was abandoned at 5-4 after North Carolina clinched the doubles point.  The Tar Heels carried the momentum into singles, winning each of the first five matches in straight sets. On Court 1, Clemson sophomore No. 107 Cristina Mayorova battled with No. 8 Cameron Morra, winning the first set 6-4, forcing the top-10 singles player into a decisive third-set. Morra barely held on to win the 10-point tiebreak 11-9 to complete the sweep.  Up next, The Tigers will head up the road to Durham, N.C. to face No. Duke on Sunday.
