London: Investors have piled billions of dollars into emerging market assets at the start of 2021 after a banner end to last year, showing how the flood of central bank stimulus continues to drive a frantic hunt for returns.
A group of 30 major developing countries has attracted $17bn in inflows in the first three weeks of January alone, according to a Financial Times analysis of daily data from the Institute of International Finance.
The strong start to 2021, with inflows largely aimed at equities, comes after a dramatic shift last year. After a record exodus of almost $90bn in March at the onset of the pandemic, investors returned to EM stock and bond markets in a rising flood, with almost $180bn in the fourth quarter bringing total inflows in the final nine months of 2020 to more than $360bn, according to a broader IIF dataset that tracks 63 emerging economies ....

LONDON, Jan 6 (Reuters) - A record increase in government debt globally will hit emerging markets disproportionately, with developing nations not benefiting from lower interest rates and debt service burdens providing a cause for concern, Fitch Ratings said on Wednesday.
Global sovereign debt soared by $10 trillion to $77.8 trillion, or 94% of world gross domestic product, as governments boosted spending on health and shored up their economies roiled by the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic, Fitch calculated.
Both the increase and debt levels are at a record high, Fitch’s head of sovereign ratings, James McCormack, wrote in a report, adding that the last $10 trillion tranche took seven years to build. ....

Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Mohammad Reza Nafar has said Iran wants to engage deeply with Bangladesh in the energy sector and make the bilateral trade volume of several US$ billions noting that Bangladesh is going to emerge as a big economic force in the world, especially in the region.  
“Iran is ready to engage deeply in Bangladesh’s energy sector, especially in the area of petroleum gas. Our bilateral trade volume should be several US$ billions which is not a satisfactory level at this moment,” he told UNB in an interview. ....
