What to wear in a heatwave: the six-step guide to mastering summer style

Why they’re ideal: The trend for chunky 'ugly' sandals shows no sign of abating and I am, naturally, delighted to be reunited with my Birkenstocks. But I'm also at the point where I'd like a little grace and elegance to return to my summer footwear portfolio which is why I'm searching out less cumbersome styles. The ideal is these Massimo Dutti sandals which leave no room for chipped toenails or hard skin so prep before wearing, but the result will be sleek, plus black goes with anything - especially a light, Bank Holiday weekend tan.
Extra features: There are some happy mediums between clompy and barely-there. A cross-over design offers great support without being overwhelming. These options from Joseph and John Lewis might be at opposite ends of the price spectrum but can be worn for summers to come with dresses, jeans or shorts. If you like the trekking sandal look but don't want to go too Millets, then Boden's Philomena is practical yet pretty.

Four brides on renting their wedding dresses: 'It was so perfect wearing it just that day'

Sustainable, affordable and chic – turns out a wedding dress makes a perfect ‘something borrowed’

And the bride wore a rental dress...
When the Telegraph fashion team revealed that Carrie Johnson (nee Symonds) had rented the bell-sleeved Christos Costarellos gown she wore to marry Boris Johnson, it was many readers’ first time learning about wedding-dress rentals. But more brides than ever are hiring their dresses, motivated by sustainability, affordability – and the sense that there’s no longer any need to hang onto a special dress forever.
Here, four women who chose to hire their wedding-day looks share their experiences.

It's never been chicer to shop vintage - and where to find the best buys

I better ’fess up now to being a late arrival at the Depop party. In case you are too, Depop.com (pronounced dee-pop) is a fashion-market app for buying and selling second hand clothes. It was founded in 2011, is headquartered in London and has just been bought by Etsy, the online marketplace antidote to Amazon, for $1.6 billion (£1.1bn).
I love Etsy. It’s the place to shop with small, independent businesses often working from their kitchen tables, and has everything, from jewellery to cat’s baskets and reusable cotton wipes, and invariably rewards those with a good eye or who simply enjoy the chase. Shopping on Etsy gives you the same fuzzy feeling you get meandering down a small, rural high street crammed with indie boutiques. If any still exist.

Summertime chic: From gingham, patchwork to florals
Summer has finally arrived - but is your wardrobe ready? For those in need of a quick fix,
The Telegraph’s fashion editors have rounded up their favourite high street summer dresses to buy - and all are under £100.
Mango’s gingham midi dress
Mustard gingham smock dress, £59.99, Mango
Wearing anything remotely fitted during a heatwave is my sartorial hell, so I always look for a loose dress to see me through. This gingham frock ticks all of my summer boxes: the puffy sleeves protect the tops of my shoulders, the smock shape (easily cinched with a fine leather belt, but not in today’s heat, thank you) is perfectly floaty without swamping, and the pretty hue is summery without feeling OTT. The classic print makes it look considerably more expensive than its price tag, too.
