No vaccine no work policy illegal, DOLE says

March 04, 2021
DEPARTMENT of Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Thursday, March 4, 2021 said the reported “no vaccine, no work” policy in some companies is illegal.
He said a company cannot force its employees to get vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
He said this policy can be considered discriminatory since there is limited supply of vaccines.
Earlier, the Associated Labor Union (ALU) said they have received reports from workers in the agriculture, manufacturing and services (hotels, restaurants and call centers) sector that their employers were requiring them to get vaccinated.
ALU-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines spokesperson Alan Tanjusay said they will help the workers file complaints against their employers who would implement the no vaccine, no work policy.

AN IRRITATING sense of confusion and discouragement is now boiling up among the labor sector on the unconfirmed reports of the alleged "no vaccination, no work policy" circulating, a local labor leader said.
Wennie Sancho, secretary general of General Alliance of Workers Association (Gawa), said though this was already denied by Labor and Employment Secretary Silvestre Bello III recently, official government confirmation is necessary to allay the fears of workers in the midst of economic adversity.

UK declines Bello's offer to deploy more nurses in exchange for COVID-19 vaccines – British envoy – Manila Bulletin

Bello says he asked UK for COVID-19 vaccines for Filipino nurses

“I told the British Ambassador that I can make the recommendation. However, kako, if we are going to send our medical or health care workers, especially our nurses considering the high incidence of COVID in your country, it is best that the nurses or medical workers that we will be sending will or maybe pre-vaccinated,” he said. “Before we even send them, you provide us with the vaccines so that they can be vaccinated,” he added. Bello also told the British ambassador that they may provide more COVID-19 vaccines so other overseas Filipino workers going abroad may also be vaccinated against the illness, even those not going to the UK.
