The judge overseeing the civil lawsuit against the state over abuse at the former Youth Development Center has denied the state's request to overrule the jury's verdict.

Attorneys for the man who won a lawsuit against the state of New Hampshire last week for abuse at the former Youth Development Center have filed more emergency paperwork seeking a hearing from a judge.

The jury foreperson in the Youth Development Center abuse trial was unaware of the settlement cap amount, according to court documents obtained by News 9.

A jury has awarded $38 million to a man who said he was raped and beaten at the former Youth Development Center, but the state of New Hampshire said it will pay much less.
