Unbeknownst to Common Councilors, the Anti-Racism Task Force delivered a draft civilian police review board plan to the mayor without their knowledge, they say.
The measure, which also involved the prohibition of night clubs, was initiated before the May 21 homicide of a New Britain man, 20, at the Hidden Hookah Lounge.
While law enforcement say more oversight is unnecessary considering ample checks and balances, the mayor, who campaigned on the issue, says it "makes sense."
The suspect in the death of Jonathan Semidey Jr. of New Britain has not been identified, according to police.
A New Britain man, 20, who died at shortly afterward at Middlesex Hospital, police chief said, was killed early Sunday at the 695 S. Main St. business.
