Jan 18, 2021 by Euroleague.net Print The action keeps on coming in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, with 11 games taking place this week including a pair of rearranged games on Monday and Tuesday. Here's a look ahead to the next few days on the courts of Europe. ASVEL, Olympiacos meet again There will be a very quick reunion for LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne (6-13) and Olympiacos Piraeus (10-9), who went head to head in Greece on Friday and will now meet again on Tuesday in a rearranged Round 10 meeting. ASVEL gained a surprise 63-69 victory in Piraeus in Round 20 on the back of an outstanding defensive effort that was especially notable for slowing down Kostas Sloukas. The experienced point guard had averaged 23.3 points over the previous three games but was restricted to just 2 points by an ASVEL defense that generally did a great job in denying Olympiacos space on the perimeter. As a result, the Reds committed 16 turnovers and converted just 7 three-point shots. Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas blamed that outcome on attitude, labeling his players' mentality of as "arrogant". The playoffs-chasing Reds will be keen to quickly flip the script by gaining revenge in Villeurbanne to start a week that also includes their testing trip to Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday.
Fenerbahce sets club assist record with Baskonia rout Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul had its best offensive performance of the season as it extended its winning streak to four games by beating visiting TD Systems Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz 96-76 on Tuesday night. Both teams now hold 9-10 records, but Fenerbahce claimed the potential head-to-head tiebreaker with this 20-point win. Fenerbahce took the lead for good early and had its first double-digit margin after 10 minutes. Jan Vesely and Nando De Colo paced the hosts, but Baskonia fought to keep in touch in the first half. But Fenerbahce had a strong finish to the second quarter and a good defensive start of the third, increasing the margin to 60-44 and never looking back as it went on to set a club record with 29 assists. De Colo netted a season-high 27 points, Vesely had 17 and Lorenzo Brown scored 14 points in the victory. Alec Peters paced Baskonia with 15 points, while Zoran Dragic and Achille Polonara had 12 points apiece in a losing effort.
